Meet Therese

A cognitive scientist at Seattle University, Therese Huston helps you give feedback so the other person can actually hear you.  In her talks and in her latest book, Let’s Talk, she blends rigorous research with eye-opening stories to help you say what needs to be said and, even more importantly, say it in a way that can be heard.

Career Highlights

Early in her career, Therese founded the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Seattle University.  Therese has given more than 225 keynotes, talks, and workshops – including presentations for Microsoft, Amazon, the Cleveland Clinic, and Harvard Business School.  She gave her first TEDx talk on what smart groups do differently, and she’s been interviewed on NPR.  Therese’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Oprah’s O Magazine, Forbes, Time Magazine, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, and The Los Angeles Times.

School, school, and more school

Therese received her BA from Carleton College and her MS and PhD in cognitive psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.  She received a prestigious post-doctoral fellowship in cognitive clinical neuroscience at the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition.  As a lover of learning, she’s currently enrolled in a graduate program in Organizational Leadership at the Saïd Business School at Oxford University.

Personal side

Therese grew up in Cleveland and spent her childhood going to Browns’ football games and eating pierogies and homemade apple strudel.  After 16 years in Seattle and 3 years in Portland, she now calls the Pacific Northwest home.  She doesn’t miss Ohio’s humidity, but she does miss the people.

When she’s not writing or speaking, she loves to travel, spend time with her husband, play with numbers, work her yoga mat and mountain bike, and bake amazing gluten-free brownies.
