Hi there! I’m Therese Huston and I’m delighted that you’ve found me.
As a cognitive neuroscientist, I first started studying the brain and behavior back in the early 1990s. If you’re new to me and my work, here’s a quick path to learn more.
My work centers on helping people tackle the everyday challenges that leave them feeling stuck—especially those moments when we think, as capable adults, we should have it all figured out.
Through my books, whether I’m sharing neuroscience-based strategies for peak mental performance (Sharp) or exploring how to teach outside your comfort zone (Teaching What You Don’t Know), my goal is to provide practical, empowering tools that make life a little less frustrating and a lot more fulfilling. I’ve got a good life, and I think you should too.
When I’m not writing or speaking, I love to travel, relax with my husband and Boston Terrier, get a really good massage, do my daily yoga, and bake amazing gluten-free brownies. My husband and I invented “Do-Nothing Saturdays” during Covid, a tradition I try to keep to this day.
I’m lucky to have a rewarding home life too. I’m of Slovenian heritage and I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. I spent my childhood going to Browns’ football games, playing Yahtzee and Boggle, and eating my grandma’s homemade apple strudel. (If you’ve never had soft apple strudel, you don’t know what you’re missing). After 18 years in Seattle and 3 years in Portland, I now call the Pacific Northwest home. I don’t miss Ohio’s humidity, but I do miss the people.
